Declaration of Generative AI
Declaration of Generative AI in Scientific Writing
Authors are required to declare the use of generative AI in scientific writing at the time of manuscript submission. The following guidelines apply exclusively to the manuscript preparation process and do not cover the use of AI tools for data analysis, molecular simulations, or drawing conclusions from chemical research data.
Language Quality and Readability Enhancement: Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies should only be used in the writing process to improve the readability and refine the language of the manuscript.
Human Oversight and Control: These technologies must be used under the full supervision and control of the authors. Authors are required to carefully review and edit the generated output, as AI may produce content that appears convincing but is potentially inaccurate, incomplete, or biased. Authors bear full responsibility and accountability for all the content of the manuscript.
Authorship Criteria: Authors are prohibited from listing or citing AI or AI-assisted technologies as an author or co-author. Authorship implies scientific and legal responsibility that can only be assumed and exercised by humans.
Procedure for Declaring the Use of AI
The use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in scientific writing must be disclosed by adding a formal statement at the end of the manuscript upon its initial submission. This statement will be included in the published article and placed in a dedicated section before the References.
New Section Title: Declaration of the Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in Writing
Statement Format:
"During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [NAME OF TOOL/SERVICE] for [PURPOSE/REASON, e.g., improving English/Indonesian grammar]. Following the use of this tool, the authors thoroughly reviewed and edited the content and take full responsibility for all the content of the published article."
This declaration does not apply to the use of basic tools such as spelling and grammar checkers (Grammarly/Microsoft Word spell-check) or reference management software (Mendeley/Zotero). If no generative AI tools have been used in preparing the manuscript, authors are not required to include this declaration. The complete policy can be found in the Generative AI Policy of the Journal of Chemistry Education and Learning (Jurnal Pendidikan dan Pembelajaran Kimia/JPPK).
Policy for Reviewers and Editors
Please note: To protect authors' copyrights and maintain the confidentiality of submitted chemistry education research, the Journal of Chemistry Education and Learning (JPPK) currently prohibits reviewers and editors from using generative AI or AI-assisted technologies (such as ChatGPT, Claude, or similar services) during the peer-review and manuscript evaluation processes.
The JPPK Editorial Board actively monitors developments in AI technology and may revise this policy in the future to safeguard publication integrity.
